Shaper Spotlight

Jacob Fryer, Journey Crafts

Surfer: Jacob Fryer

Meet Jacob Fryer, 28 years young, from a little town called Gerringong on the wave rich south coast of NSW, Australia. Jacob is a carpenter by trade and loves using his hands to build things. "Ive been absolutely obsessed with surfing since I was young. I have always been super into surfboard design especially seeing guys rip on something not the norm. We have a high caliber of surfers from my area like Todd Prestige, Sally Fitzgibons, Dean Bowen and local hero’s like Tully Robinson. Now with my obsession with surfboards and wanting to buy so many different boards alongside my love for design and using my hands, I figured why not make my own boards using AkuShaper." That is where my surfboard brand, Journey Crafts began.

"I love the process of tweaking my designs in AkuShaper. Actually shaping the boards is an incredible hands-on experience that really ties it all in for me, and what I want to create. Riding a board you have made or made for someone else has to be the best feeling ever."

My love for riding and making anything from logs to little fishes, high performance, or big wave boards comes from just wanting the perfect board for every condition and wanting to be in the water as much as possible. In the future I’m keen on improving my designs and expanding my brand so I can keep the stoke of surfing for myself and for whoever wants to ride my boards, it’s a massive passion of mine to keep people in the water as much as possible riding something they love that works.."

"This board is for people transitioning from high performance shortboards and not to feel too weird surfing a twin fin with high performance elements. I have also designed this board to be a performance twin fin for those who enjoy riding fishes. I recommend riding this board in waves you would ride your step down shorty in."
